AFGE Family,
June marks Pride Month, a month dedicated to recognizing and celebrating the LGBTQIA+ community. For centuries this diverse community has been tormented, targeted, and rejected by society. Sadly, hatred and abuse continue today.
We at AFGE are proud to stand in solidarity with everyone in the LGBTQIA+ community and we are proud to present a variety of programming to highlight the LGBTQIA+ community during the month of June.
Join the Women’s and Fair Practices Departments on June 9 from 7:00 - 8:30 PM ET for our LGBTQIA+ Panel. This panel will highlight the lived experiences of LGBTQIA members of AFGE. This event will allow attendees to hear about the day to day lives of folks in the LGBTQIA+ community and teach them how to be an ally. This event will be held via Zoom and Facebook Live. LBGTQIA+ Panel: June 9 from 7-8:30 PM EST
To further celebrate LGBTQIA+ Pride Month, the Women’s and Fair Practices Departments will also host two trainings on a monumental Supreme Court case, Bostock v. Clayton County, Georgia.
This 2020 case changed the face of LGBTQIA+ employment protections by verifying that the 1964 Civil Rights Act protects gay, lesbian, and transgender employees from discrimination based on sex. The Title VII and Sexual Orientation Training will also go over the basics of the Civil Rights Acts and all protections our LGBTQIA+ community has in the workplace.
Click the hyperlinks below to register for one of our two sessions and to learn how you can use new case law to enhance your allyship.
Title VII Protections for LGBTQIA+ Employees: June 16 from 6-8 PM EST
Title VII Protections for LGBTQIA+ Employees: June 22 from 7-9 PM EST
We hope you can join us for our great June programming! If you have any questions, please direct them to Acting Program Manager Jenny Pratt at [email protected].
In Solidarity,
Jeremy A. Lannan
National Vice President for Women’s and Fair Practices
