Trump crony Postmaster General Louis DeJoy has caused immense harm to one of our nation’s most vital and beloved institutions, the U.S. Postal Service. And now the FBI is investigating him in connection with illegal campaign fundraising activity involving his former business.[1] He has demonstrated time and again that he is unfit to lead our nation’s postal agency.
Now that the Senate has confirmed all of President Biden’s nominees to the USPS Board of Governors, it’s time for them to take decisive action to save the USPS and FIRE Postmaster DeJoy!
Last week, DeJoy announced an imminent start date for his plans to raise prices on first class mail and permanently slow down delivery schedules – and if the rest of his ten-year plan were to be enacted, it would result in massive service delays – potentially causing millions of people harm. Medications could lapse while people wait for refills, small businesses would struggle to serve their customers, and paychecks might fail to reach workers on time. We can’t let the damage he’s done to our Postal Service become permanent.
DeJoy’s attempts to further undermine the beloved but struggling postal service signals his clear intent to fulfill a long-held goal of the Right: weaken the USPS to try to make the case for privatization. We need someone with longstanding experience in the postal industry to actually lead the agency’s modernization – not a morally corrupt businessman who wants to dismantle it from the inside out.
The USPS has never been in greater peril than it is under its current leadership. Thank you for working with us to keep up the pressure to save the postal service.
