Last night, House Democrats voted to condemn Trump’s racist Tweet telling me and Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar, and Ayanna Pressley to “go back” to “the crime infested places from which [we] came.”
Republicans voted with Trump. Faced with blatant racism, all but 4 chose silence.
I want to send a message of gratitude and thanks to the solidarity we have received from every corner of our country in the face of the most recent xenophobic, bigoted remarks from the occupant of our White House.
We know the attacks from Trump and his supporters will keep coming -- against the Squad and against the American people.
This latest episode is a disruptive distraction from the issues of care, concern, and consequence to the American people.
We were sent to Congress with a clear mandate from our constituents. To work on everything from reducing the cost of prescription drugs to addressing the affordable housing crisis to ensuring that the American people have quality health care.
Every single day, there are millions of people facing the very real manifestations of Trump’s white nationalism. Children are trapped in cages -- exemplifying the callus, chaotic, and corrupt culture of this administration that the occupant of the White House seeks to distract us from.
Our job now is to refocus and to get back to the work we were sent to Congress to do.
Thanks again for your solidarity and joining together to build a more just world.
-- Rep. Rashida Tlaib
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez told PCCC members, "The majority of Americans are with us on the policies. Americans support Medicare for All, expanding Social Security benefits, gun reform, debt-free college, and a $15 minimum wage. Bold progressive values are popular EVERYWHERE. Together, we have the people. Together, with your help, we’ll have the votes." Chip in $3 here.
