NEW RESEARCH
** Incarceration for HIV crimes in Georgia cost the state $9 million
------------------------------------------------------------
Using data from the Georgia Department of Corrections, researchers at the Williams Institute analyzed enforcement of HIV-related crimes in Georgia between 1999 and 2020. Between 122 and 133 people have been incarcerated for HIV crimes in Georgia, costing the state more than $9 million over the last two decades. Nearly three-quarters of those incarcerated for HIV crimes in Georgia were men and the average sentence length for HIV crimes was 8.3 years at the time of admission to prison.

FROM THE ARCHIVES
In the past two decades, the Williams Institute has made a mark on LGBTQ research. We have published nearly 500 reports. We've filed 47 amicus briefs in key court cases and provided testimony to Congress and state legislatures over 40 times. We've conducted more than 200 judicial education sessions on five continents and our research has appeared in the media 7,500 times.
None of it would have been possible without the knowledge, dedication, and passion of more than 120 researchers, lawyers, fellows, and professional staff who have worked with us over the years. We are honored to call each and every one part of the Williams Institute family.
