John,
The seditionist Republican Senators that incited an insurrection at the
U.S. Capitol on January 6th successfully blocked legislation that would
create a commission to explore what happened that day.
The efforts to create the commission, like the one established after 9/11,
failed because Republicans used the undemocratic filibuster to protect
themselves and their colleagues.
One of the biggest roadblocks for Democrats passing any sort of
legislation is the filibuster, a racist relic of the Jim Crow era, that
allows a minority of Senators to block voting on proposed legislation
unless 60 or more Senators vote to end debate.
Thanks to the filibuster, even a Republican minority in the Senate can
block the vast majority of policies, including creating a commission to
investigate an attack on our nation's Capitol.
There is perhaps no better example for why we must abolish the filibuster
than seeing Republican Senators incite an insurrection then use the
filibuster to block an investigation into that insurrection.

End the Filibuster: [link removed]
Mitch McConnell and Republicans will continue to use the filibuster as a
powerful partisan weapon.
If Republicans can use their simple majority to pass unpopular bills that
benefit the wealthy few, then Democrats must use their simple majority to
investigate attacks against our country and pass legislation that will
benefit millions of people across the United States.
Let’s be clear: Republicans didn’t let rules and tradition get in the way
of taking away health care from Americans, appointing extremist judges, or
transferring trillions of dollars to big corporations and the top 1%.
Republicans do not shy away from changing the Senate rules when they want
to pass their top priorities.
In 2001 they changed the rules to allow for the Bush tax cuts to pass with
51 votes and then after stealing a Supreme Court seat from Merrick
Garland, they changed the rules to push through Gorsuch’s appointment with
just 51 votes.
With Democrats now in control, they need to have the same determination to
deliver an agenda for the people, which includes creating a commission to
investigate what took place on January 6th.

Thank you for your activism, together we can restore majority rule and end
the filibuster once and for all.
Let’s make it happen,
