The statistics are clear: every year, an average of 115,551 Americans are shot. That's 306 shootings per day -- and 106 of those who are shot die from their wounds. Those numbers are far too high, and a disproportionate number of those killed are women and people of color.
It shouldn't be this way.
No one should be scared to see a movie, go shopping, go to school, or attend a church service. We owe it to every American to take swift action to address the gun violence epidemic happening in our country right now -- and we need our legislators to take action.
It's never been more important to address gun violence. That's why today, I'm joining the 97% of Americans across the country who want to see some kind of gun reform. I'm wearing orange to raise awareness and end gun violence in our country once and for all.
Our communities have been ravaged by gun violence and countless lives changed forever as they've been forced to say goodbye to loved ones too soon. This should not be our normal, and it's time we take action to end gun violence now.
