One of those days was six years ago when I proposed to my wife. We had just delivered our arguments in support of marriage equality before the Supreme Court, and I got down on one knee right there on the Supreme Court steps.
Another was the day I won my statewide attorney general race, not just a gay woman, but as the first openly LGBTQ+ person to be elected to statewide office in Michigan.
As someone who faced hurdles when it came to building the career and family I wanted, I can’t think of a better word to describe what I felt on both of those days than pride.
Now I'm running for re-election, and national Republicans have their eyes set on my seat. They know that I fight for all families, not their special interests, and they've made it clear that they'll spend whatever it takes to defeat me.
With the help of you and the Michigan Democratic Party (MDP), we made history in 2018. We can do it again, but the MDP is counting on the support of people like you chipping in $10 or whatever you can.

I have proven that I will fight for hardworking families — of all shapes and sizes. I want to keep up that fight, especially as we’ve seen a rise in hateful, anti-trans legislation in Michigan and across the country.
In fact, just this week, Michigan Republicans are considering a bill that would ban transgender youth from participating in sports. We can’t let this discriminatory bill become law.
As your Attorney General, I won’t stop fighting until every LGBTQ+ Michigander has equal protection under the law.
I wouldn't ask if it wasn't critically important: Will you chip in $10 to the MDP so I can win re-election and continue fighting for equality?
Thank you,
Dana Nessel
