Right now, the Pennsylvania General Assembly is considering a bill that would fine families that have suffered a loss through a miscarriage and force them to get death certificates.
Miscarriages are tragic events, and it’s a step too far to traumatize women and families further by forcing them to file death certificates and attack health care workers for providing the care people need as they endure such great loss.
The bills currently in question also perpetuate dangerous narratives about why someone may have a miscarriage or seek reproductive health care, making it even harder for working-class families to get the care they need when it’s already so difficult.
We know Pennsylvanians won’t stand for this. Instead of focusing on how we can get our communities back on their feet, the GOP is using women as a playing chip for points with their extreme base.
