Co-Sponsored Legislation: This week, I lent my support and commitment to the following bills:

  • H.R. 3466;
    The victims of the Tulsa Race Massacre have been neglected and ignored for far too long. They deserve justice, recognition, and reparations. The Tulsa-Greenwood Massacre Claims Accountability Act of 2021 provides such a remedy by creating a federal cause of action and access to federal courts for massacre-related claims. I am proud to support this effort and begin the process of ensuring accountability for a national tragedy.
  • H.R. 3576;
    It’s simple, reproductive rights are human rights. H.R. 3576 would permanently require the State Department to include a review of global reproductive rights in its annual report on human rights. Women should receive full and unobstructed access to reproductive care which the United States must strive to ensure both at home and abroad. This bill will provide myself and other lawmakers with the necessary facts and information to enact policy and support targeted international aid.
  • H.R. 3602;
    Computer science is one of the fastest-growing professions in the global economy. Yet woman and students of color, specifically African Americans and Latinos, are widely unrepresented in this field. H.R. 3692, The Computer Science for All Act provides $250 million in new grants and financial support to pre-K through grade 12 educational programs while ensuring that students who are already underrepresented are not left behind. The United States finds strength in its diversity, and we must remain true to this principle to meet the technological challenges of the 21st century. This process starts with investing in our children and our schools.
  • H.R. 3614;
    This bill would address financial roadblocks and accessibility disparities to menstrual products for underprivileged woman and girls. The components of the Menstrual Equality for All Act of 2021 include requiring Medicaid to cover the cost of menstrual products, incentivizing schools to implement programs that provide free menstrual products to students and allowing homeless assistant providers to use federal grants to purchase menstrual products. I am proud to support this issue in Congress while striving to ensure that anybody who menstruates does not face challenges in accessing these vital products.

Congresswoman Yvette D. Clarke (NY-09), Founding Co-chair of the Caribbean American Caucus, released the following statement in support of the Administration’s Global Vaccine Distribution announcement.

As a Senior Member of the House Homeland Security Committee and the Founding Co-Chair of the Congressional Caribbean and House Haiti Caucuses, I applaud president Biden and his Administration for answering our calls to introduce a competent global vaccination plan to support our neighbors — particularly Caribbean nations — who have been some of the hardest hit by the devastating effect of COVID-19,” said Clarke. “Let me be very clear: As long as this pandemic is raging anywhere in the world, we are all still vulnerable. I am proud the United States is committed to bringing the same urgency to international vaccination efforts that we have demonstrated right here at home. The allocation of approximately 6 million doses to the Caribbean and Latin America is a poignant step in the right direction that will dramatically stem the tide of COVID’s deadly progression in the region.
