** Wisconsin Judge Allows CHC Transmission Line Bias Case to Proceed
------------------------------------------------------------
We are challenging the proposed Cardinal-Hickory Creek transmission line that would cut a wide swath through the scenic Wisconsin Driftless Area. Dane County Circuit Court Judge Frost issued a very favorable opinion on behalf of ELPC’s clients: the Driftless Area Land Conservancy and Wisconsin Wildlife Federation. The judge ruled that if Commissioner Huebsch was biased, or his actions created the appearance of bias, this would taint the PSC's decision-making process and the court would be required to invalidate the transmission line's approval. This decision gives us an opportunity to conduct discovery and prove our case to protect vital natural resources.
It also sets an important precedent that clean government is vital to achieving clean energy. It is time to clean up conflicts of interest in Wisconsin’s state government. ELPC will continue to work towards cleaner and less costly energy alternatives to protect the unique Driftless Area.

** ELPC Releases New NW Ohio Poll on Cleaning Up Lake Erie ([link removed])
------------------------------------------------------------
Nationally recognized pollster J. Ann Selzer polled 506 voters in northwest Ohio to understand attitudes around regulating CAFOs and protecting the health of Lake Erie. 93% rank access to safe clean water as their top concern which is above health care and jobs, and 81% support enforceable regulations to reduce runoff pollution. Governor DeWine must listen to his constituents and keep Ohio’s commitment to reduce phosphorus pollution by 40% by 2025 to protect Lake Erie.

** Thinking Beyond Wires with Advanced Transmission Technologies ([link removed])
------------------------------------------------------------
ELPC and the Center for Renewables Integration released a new vision paper this month, urging energy planners to think “beyond wires.” By embracing smart technologies in conjunction with transmission lines, the U.S. can relieve grid congestion and get renewables online faster and cheaper than relying on new transmission lines alone.

** U.S. EPA Announces New Ozone Attainment Designations ([link removed])
------------------------------------------------------------
After ELPC filed a lawsuit with the Respiratory Health Association against the Trump EPA’s flawed ozone designations in 2018, the U.S. Court of Appeals ordered the agency to redo the designations in July 2020. This month, the U.S. EPA announced new designations that will require McHenry County, Illinois, the northern half of Porter County, Indiana, and a larger portion of Kenosha County, Wisconsin to reduce ozone-forming pollution.
