In this email, I'll be talking about gun violence. Please only read if you feel comfortable doing so. -- DE

Today, we wear orange in honor of 15-year-old Hadiya Pendleton, who was shot and killed in 2013 just one week after performing at President Barack Obama's second inaugural parade.

We wear orange because over 100 lives are cut short by gun violence every single day.

We wear orange because we've had enough empty condolences and excuses. We wear orange as a call to action:

John, this March, I helped pass a universal background checks bill through the House for the second time -- a measure that 97 percent of Americans support. Now I'm putting pressure on the Senate to act. Will you add your name next to mine to demand the Senate address the gun violence epidemic?

It's no secret that America has a problem with gun violence. Our country is home to more guns than people, and firearms are the second leading cause of death of American children and teens.

I'm fighting alongside Senator Bob Casey (PA) to help survivors of gun violence access the support they need. And it's why I have voted for and continue to support passing legislation to reduce gun violence, including closing the dangerous Charleston loophole.

Today, I encourage you to wear orange as a way to elevate our voices in demanding an end to gun violence. And if you haven't already, join me in calling on the Senate to take bigger and bolder action when it comes to gun violence -- add your name next to mine.
