Dear Friends,

As we head into the summer, our Friday email will be taking a small break. We’ll be shifting to every other week with our next email on Friday, June 18. Thanks for taking the time to read our emails and learn about our work at the Coalition!

The 25th Annual Race Against Hunger has officially ended! This year was a challenge hosting a virtual 5K event and we couldn’t have pulled it off without you! Hunger doesn’t pause for a pandemic. That is why we host events such as the Race Against Hunger to increase awareness of hunger and food insecurity in the Philadelphia region; and also, to raise much needed funds to support our work that ensures that all people have the food they need to lead healthy lives. Thank you again for participating as a runner, walker, fundraiser, sponsor and donor. We are truly grateful for your support!

SNAP Hotline

Our SNAP Hotline continues to operate Monday – Thursday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm and on Friday from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm at 215-430-0556.

• Click the link for the City of Philadelphia’s list of COVID-19 food distribution site locations across Philadelphia for student, senior and outdoor food pick up sites.

Click the link for listings (phone numbers and addresses) of all Philadelphia County Assistance offices. While offices remain closed to the public at this time, you can drop off paperwork in "drop boxes" outside. Note, however, when calling it is often quicker to contact the Customer Service Center at 215-560-7226 (Philadelphia) or 877-395-8930 (statewide).

Policy and Advocacy

We have been focused on P-EBT quite a bit recently. Judging from the calls coming to our hotline, many parents and caregivers are focused on P-EBT as well! While we can’t look up individual student information or directly resolve the problems some families are having with P-EBT benefits, we can share information and resources that we hope will help families know what to expect.

• For an overview of the most recent information, please see this new “Top Ten Things You Need to Know about P-EBT,” flyer. (Note, we will work to get this translated and share it in the near future!)

• If you’d like a comprehensive P-EBT overview and prefer watching/listening to take in information, you can access a recording of our “What Families Need to Know about P-EBT" event here: https://www.facebook.com/watch/live/?v=1179799442448390 - or - here: https://youtu.be/hl2n05jh1Vc

• If you want to read through the many details about P-EBT, including how to activate your card and payment amounts, please see our “Frequently Asked Questions” (FAQs). We will continue to update the FAQs as the program rolls out.

P-EBT cards – over 800,000 of them – are in the process of being mailed to eligible PA students and should arrive by the end of June. We know it is frustrating to wait, but help is on the way!

Another topic we are focused on is the upcoming Summer Meals season. Keep an eye out, as we will be sharing our Summer Meals Map and materials in the coming weeks.

Food Pantry & Soup Kitchens

This past May the Coalition’s Food Rescue Program members were able to provide 15,550 pounds of food and 300 pounds of water to 1900 people (650 households) as a result of our partnership. We are grateful for the dedication of our food pantry and soup kitchen partners who show up each week to ensure the families they serve receive as much healthy food as possible. If your food pantry or soup kitchen would like to be added to the waiting list to participate in our Food Rescue Program, please contact Derek Felton at [email protected].

Upcoming Victory in Partnership (VIP) Meeting

If you are a food pantry or soup kitchen leader, please join us for the Coalition’s next Victory in Partnership (VIP) meeting to be held on Thursday, June 10th from 10:30-12noon on Zoom. Vonetta Robinson from  Aunt Bertha will show us how to include the details about our community services in their national database free of charge. Contact Tanya at [email protected] for more details and the link for the meeting.

We’re looking for a Communications Coordinator!
