John,
Over the weekend, Trump unleashed yet another (I’ve truly lost count) anti-immigrant policy: America will now deny visas to any immigrant who cannot afford to pay for health insurance.
What? This country doesn’t even guarantee paid health insurance to its own citizens. Many Americans rely on personal fundraising websites like GoFundMe just to pay their medical bills, others forgo their medications, some people just die and that's not just hyperbole! It’s the American healthcare system. And yet, now Trump wants to ban immigrants who face the same struggle from legally entering our country?
We know what this is, John: just another xenophobic attempt by Trump to keep immigrants who don’t look like him out of the United States. And when it goes into effect, it could prevent an estimated 2/3 of immigrants from obtaining a visa to enter the country legally.
This policy only exacerbates this ugly chapter in our history in which the President of the United States is dedicating untold time and resources to targeting, persecuting, and banning immigrants. We can’t allow it to go through.
Add your name to our petition right now calling on Congress to stop Trump’s latest attack against immigrants.
If this proclamation is allowed to take effect, it will mean only immigrants who can prove they have the resources to pay for "reasonably foreseeable medical costs" will be granted entry to the U.S. starting November 3. That’s less than a month away.
This hateful, bogus rule would even apply to the immigrant parents of U.S. citizens and immediate family members of documented residents already living here.
Once again, it’s this administration doing everything they can in a cruel attempt to keep families separated.
Trump’s latest policy can -- and must -- be stopped before November, John. Let’s build public pressure to demand this proclamation be struck down ASAP: sign our petition now.
Thanks for taking action,
-Charles
