The Latest Research, Commentary, And News From Health Affairs

Thursday, June 3, 2021

Dear John,

**** Today's newsletter gives readers a peek inside the June 2021
edition of Health Affairs.

June 2021: COVID-19, Equity & More

The June 2021 issue of the journal expands our understanding of the
broad effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, while also exploring topics such
as health equity, care delivery organization, prescription drug pricing,
and more.

Three papers this month describe the consequences of the COVID-19
pandemic on care for other conditions, including emergency calls for
cardiac arrests, high-acuity emergency department visits, and new
initiations of behavioral health medications.

Two papers analyze COVID-19 case and mortality data among specific
populations.

Several papers cover health equity on topics including access to care
for Medicare beneficiaries with disabilities, growth in Medicare
Advantage enrollment, adolescents living in communities with recent gun
violence, and racial/ethnic disparities in the use of medication for
opioid use disorder.

Today on Health Affairs Blog, Carol Levine and Rani Snyder discuss how
COVID-19 expansions of Hospital at Home programs

should rally support for family caregivers. In the first post of their
two-part blog series, David Anderson and coauthors discuss how the
Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services can nudge more enrollees

into plans that offer them both lower premiums and reduced cost sharing.

Elevating Voices: Pride Month: In a 2016 article about community-based
participatory research, Beti Thompson and coauthors discussed the
success of the Transgender Community Health Project
,
which is aimed at assessing HIV/AIDS risk among transgender people in
San Francisco.
