Happy Pride, John!
Fifty-one years ago this month, the first Pride march was held to commemorate the Stonewall riots in New York City the year prior. Since then, marches have popped up around the country, including right here in the 8th district, and every June we take time to celebrate and uplift LGBTQ+ Americans. We've made progress since the Stonewall riots in 1969, but we still have a long way to go for true equality in our country. While we may have protections for LGBTQ+ people in Washington State, there are still states where you can be discriminated against simply because of who you love or how you identify. This year we've seen a record-breaking number of anti-transgender bills working their way through state legislatures across the country including in Arkansas, Alabama, Tennessee, Mississippi, Montana, and West Virginia. We know we can expect more hateful, discriminatory legislation if we don't make equality the law of the land. We're not equal until everyone, in every state, is equal. That's why Kim voted to pass the Equality Act earlier this year to explicitly outlaw any discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity nationwide. But now, we need the Senate to act and pass this landmark piece of legislation. This Pride Month, recommit to the fight for equality by adding your name to call on the Senate to pass the Equality Act >> Thanks, Team Schrier National Republicans have named Rep. Kim Schrier's district a top target for the midterms, so we need your help to build another winning campaign. Will you chip in to protect Kim's seat and the Democratic House majority in 2022?
