Hi John,
Here in NYC, the theme for this year's Pride is "The Fight Continues."
With 2021 seeing a surge of attacks from Republican politicians against trans youth,
you're damn right the fight continues.
Pride is the LGBTQIA+ community's celebration of their dignity, equality, and visibility and to commemorate the enduring spirit of activists who fight for sexual and gender equality every day in America.
Right now, those values are being tested by the Republican party. They're pushing bills that ban trans kids from playing sports and that call gender-affirming care "abuse" -- it's wrong, and it's traumatizing trans youth.
Run for Something is committed to doing our part as LGBTQIA+ people and allies by electing diverse, young progressives committed to fighting for equality and dignity.
So for Pride this year, I'm asking you to help Run for Something celebrate by chipping in directly to our endorsed and elected LGBTQIA+ candidates. Can you split a donation between these 25 progressives and Run for Something now?
Republican politicians are all too happy to go back to their decades-old playbook and drum up hate and fear against LGBTQIA+ folks -- all in an attempt to divide Americans while they give kickbacks to the rich.
But Republicans are drastically underestimating the hearts and minds of our communities -- we will not cede an inch of the ground we've won for LGBTQIA+ equality.
Run for Something has helped elect 104 LGBTQIA+ progressives to office, including California state Assemblymember Alex Lee, Delaware state Sen. Sarah McBride, Georgia state Sen. Kim Jackson, Nebraska state Sen. Megan Hunt, and Pennsylvania state Rep. Malcolm Kenyatta (to name a few!).
With the power they've won, they're passing laws to protect people against discrimination and hate -- like VA Del. Danica Roem, VT Rep. Taylor Small, and CO Rep. Brianna Titone passing bans on the "gay/trans panic" defense. And they're bringing their authentic selves to our body politick and demanding progress in the face of prejudice.
Our job is to keep them in power and help expand LGBTQIA+ representation in office. If you want to help, split a donation between our 25 endorsed and elected LGBTQIA+ candidates now.
Thank you -- happy Pride,
Amanda Litman
