When we first launched our campaign yesterday, I honestly wasn't sure what to expect.

I knew people would eventually rally to take this seat back from Lee Zeldin -- there's too much at stake not to -- but I didn't expect it would happen so quickly.

Moments after we launched, Susan, an entrepreneur from Port Jefferson chipped in $50. Seconds later, Andrew, a teacher from Centereach added $50 more. $25 from Ruth in Stony Brook, $25 more from Jack in Setauket. Incredible.

So many folks have come together and chipped in a bit of their hard-earned money to give this campaign a strong start. Our campaign is by the people and for the people -- we wouldn't want it any other way.

I'm Kara Hahn, a proud Democrat born and raised right here in Suffolk County. After nearly a decade representing this community in the County Legislature, I'm announcing my candidacy for Congress in New York's 1st Congressional District.

As the daughter of a teacher and volunteer firefighter, I learned early what it means to show up for your community.
