On July 7th of last year, I wrote to you about how critical it was that Takis Karantonis join me on the Arlington County Board in that election. Since then, Takis has been as good as I thought he would be as County Board member--we are lucky to have him serving Arlington. I am asking you to vote for him over the next 5 days in the Democratic Primary and help return his voice for the ideas we share to the County Board next year.

You can vote early today at the Courthouse and other locations without a reason due to law passed last year by Virginia Democrats. I will describe why below and also ask that you help me help Takis raise the funding he needs to win this primary and defeat two candidates in the fall.

As I continue to share my choices in this primary election ending June 8th, in the race for the County Board, I’m wholeheartedly supporting Takis Karantonis because I believe he is the best candidate on economic and racial equity and because he has also led and will lead on our work to fight climate change. On equity, he played a pivotal role in the symbolic, but important change in logo that Arlington is working on. Also, and perhaps more directly, he has been a voice for funding to prevent evictions and hunger, and for economic development ideas to better serve minority and women owned businesses.

Takis has relevant experience on both issues as former director of the Columbia Pike Civic Organization and has put that experience to good use already. On climate change, he is a full partner in our effort to get to 100% renewable electricity by 2035 here in Arlington.

I love this picture because it shows Takis reaching out respectfully to a voter.

There’s so much at stake in this election in this election here in Arlington and it is essential that we return Takis to the County Board next year. Takis must win this election and needs the resources to do so. He has shared with me that he needs a small but important amount of additional resources to both win the primary and be in a position to win the general election. So, I am chipping in a little asking you to join me in contributing what you can to help Arlington continue to benefit from Takis's leadership.
