Hi John,

This week the heads of the World Health Organisation, the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank and the World Trade Organisation warned that global vaccine inequality has created a “two-track pandemic”. [1] Rich countries - like the UK - are rapidly giving out vaccines and lifting restrictions, while countries in the global south are left with little or no access to any vaccines.

Fighting for a people's vaccine has never been more urgent.
Take action
Scientists are warning that the UK could be facing a third wave because of the Delta variant and so the UK’s me-first, nationalistic approach is not just immoral but hugely self-defeating. We will continue to face the threat of variants as long as large swathes of the global population lack access to vaccines.

We need to end pharmaceutical monopolies so the world can produce the volumes needed for the global population.

Last month the Biden administration changed course and backed the proposal to suspend patents at the World Trade Organisation and this week we heard that New Zealand and China are also supporting the proposal and Japan will not oppose it. Momentum is building - even the IMF, the World Bank and the WTO are urging countries to come to an urgent agreement on the proposal to suspend intellectual property.[2]

Help us keep building pressure on the UK government to back the proposal.

In solidarity with our allies and partners in the global south, we are taking the outrage of vaccine inequality onto the streets as millions in the global south - including the elderly, healthcare workers and vulnerable communities - are facing third waves completely unprotected. Last week we protested at the G7 trade ministers meeting in Whitehall, this week we will be protesting at the G7 health ministers meeting in Oxford and next week we will be taking our message direct to the G7 leaders summit in Cornwall.
We cannot remain silent in the face of vaccine apartheid.

Thank you for your support.

Best wishes,

Heidi Chow

Help ensure Covid-19 vaccines are available to everyone, everywhere

It’s vitally important that Covid-19 vaccine patents are suspended during the pandemic, and for big pharma to share their know-how globally, as the best way of ensuring there are enough vaccines for everyone everywhere.

Regular gifts give us the long-term stability to plan effective campaigns and the flexibility to respond to crises like these.
