Every year terrified cheetah cubs are caught from the wild in Ethiopia and smuggled out of the country by criminal networks.

Destined for life as ‘exotic pets’ in the Middle East, where pet cheetahs are prized as status symbols, these beautiful cats are often kept caged-up and are exploited for selfies. Many suffer and die in transit before they even reach their final destination.

Born Free works with the Ethiopian Wildlife Conservation Authority to provide a safe haven for cheetah cubs rescued from this horrific trade. Our Ensessa Kotteh rescue, conservation and education centre in Ethiopia currently cares for ten cheetah who suffered an appalling start to life.

Dembel was a tiny cub when confiscated from illegal wildlife traffickers, after officials heard noises coming from plastic containers destined for Somaliland. Our team provided round-the-clock care, and thankfully Dembel has grown to be feisty, strong and happy.

But we can’t continue this vital work without YOUR generous support.

At Ensessa Kotteh, cheetah thrive in spacious natural habitat homes which are filled with trees, climbing platforms and undergrowth to explore. Unable to defend themselves or survive in the wild, we provide them with specialist care for the rest of their lives.

With your help, we can continue to provide a safe haven for rescued cheetah and work to prevent more animals like Dembel from falling victim to the brutal wildlife trade.

PLEASE DONATE TODAY ( [link removed] )

A gift of £26 could provide one day’s expert care for a rescued cheetah, including nutritious food and dietary supplements, routine vet care, and enclosure maintenance.

Thank you for helping to keep cheetahs safe.
