Dear Friends,

You are invited to join us this June during Torture Awareness Month for a webinar series, “Lessons From The Front Lines: Legislative Campaigns On Prison Conditions and Solitary.”

Join us today, June 3 at 1pm ET for Ending Death By Incarceration. Johnny Perez, the Director of NRCAT’s U.S. Prisons Program, will hold a fireside chat with Amy Fettig, Executive Director of The Sentencing Project. The discussion will take a closer look at death by incarceration, youth life sentences, solitary confinement, the death penalty, and most importantly what needs to happen at this moment to end these torturous sentences and practices. RSVP today.

Then mark your calendar for June 10 at 1pm ET for Lessons from the NY #HALT Solitary Campaign. After nine years of advocacy, the #HALT Solitary Campaign in New York state successfully campaigned for passage of the most progressive legislation in the U.S. limiting the use of solitary confinement. The NY Times described the HALT Act as a "far-reaching move that will fundamentally change life behind bars in New York." The lessons learned throughout the campaign are of value to community organizers, advocates, and community members alike. Join NRCAT and members of the #HALT Solitary campaign in a discussion about successful organizing practices, the role of the faith community & solitary survivors, and the continuing fight in NYC to completely abolish the torture of isolated confinement.

In solidarity,

Johnny Perez
Director, NRCAT's U.S. Prisons Program
