Sinnok v. Alaska plaintiffs Esau, Cecily, Seb, and Lila enjoy a chilly hike on Flattop Mountain near Anchorage yesterday.
Dear friend,
This afternoon, Sinnok v. Alaska, the constitutional climate lawsuit brought by 16 young Alaska Natives and Alaskans against the State of Alaska, will be argued before the Alaska Supreme Court. The outcome of this hearing will determine whether the courts will exercise their critical duty to review the State of Alaska’s dangerous energy policy for its constitutionality and allow these young people to tell their stories of harm and loss at trial. Laws that promote fossil fuels and continue to worsen the climate crisis must be put to the test of the constitution, where judges ask: does this law harm young people’s rights to life, liberty, property and public trust resources?

* We must support the young Alaska Natives & Alaskans in #youthvgovAK to show the State that it cannot enact laws & implement them when those laws destroy the fragile climate on which children depend. I am with the youth plaintiffs as they head to the AK Supreme Court!
