HAVE YOUR SAY ON THE GOVERNMENT DEPOSIT RETURN SCHEME CONSULTATIONDrinks containers make up 75% of the litter found on our streets. We need a comprehensive DRS and NOW! This week Keep Britain Tidy hosted an audience of parliamentarians at a meeting of the Tidy Britain, Ocean Conservation and Microplastics APPGs to break down what a World Leading Deposit Return Scheme (DRS) should look like in the UK. You can read more about why a Deposit Return Scheme is vital here and watch out highlight video of the event below; Now we need your support. Together with our friends at Surfers Against Sewage, CPRE, Greenpeace and Marine Conservation Society, we have developed a tool to help you have your say on the Government’s Deposit Return Scheme consultation. You can find our 5 minute and 15 minute guides to respond to Defra’s consultation here. How else can you support the work of Keep Britain Tidy? Back in 2015 we successfully lobbied government to introduce the 5p carrier bag charge which has since delivered a 95% reduction in the number of bags sold by the main retailers, that's over 7.4 billion bags less (2014 - 2020). As a wholly independent charity, we now need your support to help us achieve similar success with an effective deposit return scheme, an effected extended producer responsibility scheme and an effective environment bill. Your support will help us build a case for government, calling on expert witnesses, providing data and evidence, and engaging the public so that your voice is heard. |
