Friend,
This June, I want to wish a very happy Pride Month to everyone in
the LGBTQ+ community. Pride is an opportunity for us to celebrate the
strides our nation has made towards equality, thanks to the bravery
and hard work of so many LGBTQ+ activists and leaders, from Stonewall
to Obergefell. This month is also a chance for us to rededicate
ourselves to the fight for equality – because it’s far from complete.
Just this year, 24 anti-LGBTQ+ laws have been enacted in states, 13 of
which are aimed at trans people. These laws are shameful – and in
addition to infringing on the rights of LGBTQ+ Americans, they have
the potential to make many young people feel even more unaccepted and
alone just because of their sexual orientation or gender identity.
That’s why I’m raising money for The Trevor Project, a fantastic
nonprofit that provides lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer,
and questioning young people vital crisis intervention and suicide
prevention services. This
Pride Month, I’m hoping that you can pitch in a donation to this
organization doing crucial work.

I’m proud to have authored the first bill
in the country banning the harmful practice of “conversion therapy”
for LGBTQ+ minors as a State Senator nearly a decade ago. The LGBTQ+
community adds so much to Los Angeles and this country, and we must
stand with them against conservative and homophobic attacks.
Please
join me in celebrating Pride Month by supporting The Trevor
Project.
Best, Ted
