The Marijuana Opportunity Reinvestment & Expungement (MORE) Act completely deschedules marijuana from the Controlled Substances Act, addresses the lifelong consequences of marijuana criminalization, reinvests in communities that have borne the brunt of prohibition, and takes steps to ensure an equitable and diverse marketplace.

While the final version of the MORE Act that passed the House last year ended up including language that excluded some directly-impacted people from being able to fully participate in the industry at the federal level, we fought back and got it removed from the version that was reintroduced today.

Momentum for marijuana legalization centered in racial and social justice is growing rapidly in the states and among the public. Eighteen states and D.C. have legalized marijuana, including our most recent victories in New York and New Mexico, and with Virginia becoming the first state in the South to do the same. 

Despite our progress, one person is still arrested nearly every minute simply for possessing marijuana and prohibition is disproportionately harming Black and Brown people. 

Communities that have borne the brunt of marijuana prohibition have waited long enough for justice. It’s time for Congress to catch up: tell your Representative to pass the MORE Act in the House.
