John, did you catch this headline?

The Philadelphia Inquirer:
"PHA to get 'unprecedented' $10 million in housing vouchers"

The Department of Housing and Urban Development has never granted vouchers specifically to people experiencing homelessness in Philadelphia -- until now.

These vouchers will help low-income families, the elderly, and the disabled afford decent, safe, and sanitary housing. This is a huge victory, but the work for affordable housing doesn't end here. Philadelphia, and much of the nation, was facing a housing crisis before any of us had ever heard of the coronavirus.

Dwight introduced his Housing Is Essential plan to provide an additional $63 billion (billion with a 'B'!) in new federal housing funding to boldly invest in our nation's housing infrastructure. Will you sign on now as a community sponsor of this historic affordable housing bill?

Dwight understands that in order to thrive, families need access to safe, healthy, decent, and affordable housing. The Housing Is Essential plan is how we get there, and it already has the support of leaders in the House, including Representative Matt Cartwright (PA-08) and Representative Mike Doyle (PA-18).

Right now, there are about 6,900 people in the homeless system, not including an additional 1,000 individuals living on the street. And that's only counting Philadelphians.

Affordable housing isn't only impacting our cities, it's hurting our suburbs and smaller communities, too. To help our nation fully recover from this pandemic -- and to forward our fight for racial and economic justice -- we have to invest in affordable housing.

Washington has the power to tackle the housing crisis. Dwight's Housing Is Essential plan is the next step to reimagining affordable housing and poverty in America. Will you sign on today to support it?
