Mark's message: Join us June 12 and let's sprint
to put a price on carbon
With less than two weeks before our June 12 virtual conference, “The Push For a Price On Carbon,” CCL Executive Director Mark Reynolds has a message for our volunteers: “We’ve been running a marathon for years working to get a price on carbon, and it’s at that point now where it’s sprint time.” Watch Mark’s video message to hear an update on where things stand in Congress with carbon pricing legislation and how you can add to the momentum by participating in our conference and lobbying efforts.
In other news this week: Another cosponsor: The Energy Innovation and Carbon Dividend Act picked up another cosponsor this week, Rep. Jim Himes (CT-04). You can tweet your appreciation to him and other recent cosponsors with our easy-to-use online tool. If your representative is not yet a cosponsor, send them an email asking them to sign on. Growing Climate Solutions Act update: Last week we asked you to email your Senators to vote for the bipartisan Growing Climate Solutions Act when it comes to the floor, and 4,397 of you sent messages. Thank you all for giving this bill one more push! We expect that this bipartisan bill, led by Sen. Debbie Stabenow and Sen. Mike Braun, will soon be brought to the Senate floor for a vote. Keep an eye on future Briefing emails for updates about the progress of this legislation. Jobs at CCL: Citizens’ Climate Lobby is still accepting applications to fill two positions: Director of Government Affairs and Conservative Outreach Coordinator. |

Take action this week
If you have a little time: Watch and share our latest video about carbon pricing on Twitter, Facebook or Instagram. The video delivers a simple message: The president has committed to cutting U.S. emissions in half by 2030, and carbon pricing can get us there. If you have more time: Join CCL’s Monthly Calling Campaign to help us double our calls to congressional offices this month. You can help by signing up to call at cclusa.org/mcc. Invite a friend to sign up, too. You can also connect with your nearest CCL chapter to take action in your community, or join one of CCL’s national online Action Teams to take action on specific topics like agriculture, health, faith, and more. Browse CCL Community’s Event Calendar to find upcoming events, trainings, and calls you can join. |

Lobbying: Fun video supports calling campaign
Some of our younger volunteers in the Portland (OR) Youth Action Team wanted to help out with CCL’s Monthly Calling Campaign, so they made a short video to demonstrate how easy it is to leave a message with your member of Congress. One volunteer makes the call while she’s lying on a couch, one calls while she’s putting on makeup, and another calls while she’s running on a track. A steady drumbeat of calls to congressional offices is an effective lobbying tool to influence representatives and senators. Hats off to volunteers Megan Mandel, Adelle Iseri, Loella Dickey and Ella Adyani for their work on this project. Watch and share this fun video with friends and invite them to join the calling campaign.

This week on the CCL blog
Getting to net zero: CCL Strategy Director Tony Sirna takes a closer look at the International Energy Agency’s recent report on achieving net zero emissions by 2050. The agency said meeting this goal “requires an unprecedented transformation of how energy is produced, transported and used globally” and that carbon pricing will be a key tool in that endeavor. Read more. Citizens’ Climate Radio: Our latest episode features Jacques Kenjio from Cameroon, whose family was forced off land they had occupied with permission of a tribal chief. After coming to the U.S., he looked for ways to get involved in the climate movement and discovered Citizens’ Climate Lobby. Read more. |
