Communities are beginning to reopen and life is returning to “normal,” but we must remain vigilant in our mission for safer schools.

As summer break approaches and more kids are back home, it’s a good time to ensure that firearms are stored safely and out of reach of children. Whether firearms have been in your family for generations or a recent addition to it, be sure to educate yourself and your entire family regarding firearm safety. We encourage you to visit our resources on responsible firearm storage to prevent accidents at home.

We are also eager to see action from our elected officials and encourage you to reach out to your members of Congress using our easy email tool.

How can it be that both our current President, a Democrat, and our most recent former President, a Republican, have both called on Congress to act on school safety, and yet so little has been done? Take action NOW to demand Congress pass school safety legislation.

Stand with Parkland’s President submitted testimony to the U.S. Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution for a hearing entitled Stop Gun Violence: Extreme Risk Order/“Red Flag” Laws.

Extreme Risk Protection Orders (ERPOs) – commonly known as Red Flag Laws – can save lives by creating a way for family members and law enforcement to act before warning signs escalate into tragedies. These laws are powerful tools that enable law enforcement officers to protect themselves and others. 

We ask that Congress come together and enact legislation to improve the safety of America’s students and staff members while they are at school. We believe that Red Flag Laws that keep firearms in the hands of responsible owners will help prevent mass shootings in America’s schools.

We are proud to announce that the National Association of Attorneys General, a nonpartisan national forum for the 56 state and territory attorneys general and their staff, has endorsed the EAGLES Act, named for the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School mascot.

The bipartisan bill would expand the Secret Service’s Threat Assessment Center to focus on school violence prevention.
