Dear Friend,
As New York City moves toward a full reopening of schools by September, the realities of COVID-19 and the climate crisis for our frontline communities cannot be ignored. This fall, children across the city will be returning to school with the threat of pollution and the current hurricane season, on top of the risk of spreading dangerous variants in their communities. We must ensure NYC public schools provide a healthy and safe environment that is resilient to the interlocking public health and climate crises our city faces.
That is why our Climate Works for All coalition is urging Mayor de Blasio to prioritize the installation of solar energy and air control systems in NYC public schools, which will enhance equity and safety for students and staff, while creating good-paying jobs that help the city achieve its 80 x 50 climate goals.
As mayoral candidates continue campaigning, they must commit to invest and expand green and healthy schools programs as part of their climate agendas. ?
Join us tomorrow, Thursday, June 3rd at 12:00pm as we release a new report outlining a plan for the next Mayor to build Green Healthy Schools for New York City.

What happens with public schools in the coming months and years will significantly shape the recovery after COVID, especially in low-income communities of color ravaged by the pandemic.
Installing solar panels and air control systems like HVAC in public schools will allow the next mayor to foster more resilient neighborhoods and ensure the benefits of renewable energy reach the communities most impacted by COVID-19 and climate change.
Green, Healthy Schools provides a pathway for the next mayor to continue the legacy of investment in city-wide energy efficiency by investing in solar and air control systems in public schools over the next 10 years. Will you stand with our frontline communities and fight for Green Healthy Schools?
