Hi John,
Earlier today, EveryAction announced that it's acquiring Salsa Labs, an important piece of movement infrastructure that many organizations use every day to build progressive power. In light of EveryAction’s sixth acquisition since spring 2019, I wanted to take the opportunity to discuss our approach to building progressive movement technology here at Action Network & Action Builder.
Back in June 2019, when EveryAction’s acquisition spree began, we published a blog post that pointed to a central problem for progressive and Democratic tech:
“Building good technology that solves real problems for people in a sustainable way — and stays true to our progressive values — is hard.”
It was true two years ago, and it’s true today.
That’s why we’ve embraced a model of tech innovation that empowers us to realize the benefits of scale that venture-backed tech companies offer while still maintaining progressive control of the technology and its development. We build cooperatively with and for our partners, and we are entirely owned by a non-profit, which means our partners never need to worry that we’ll sell out to a corporation or investment firm. Everything we do, and everything we build, is in pursuit of one shared goal: to create progressive movement technology that is sustainable, responsive to movement needs, and reliably progressive.
We’re always looking to bring new progressive partners into our cooperative development model. If you know of a progressive organization that could benefit from our tools, please forward this email along to your friends and colleagues who should make the switch to Action Network, Action Builder, and/or Action Network Mobile Messaging.
We hold regular demos for all three tools — learn more and sign up here:
Thank you for being a part of delivering movement-owned, movement-built tech to progressives.
In Solidarity,
Marvin Steele
