John — President Biden recently released his federal budget proposal for the next year.

While we were pleased to see some key inclusions and spending that aligns with our priorities, we were disheartened by one unmistakable statistic: a Pentagon budget with an increase of $13 billion from the previous year.

This massive increase in defense spending does not accurately reflect our country’s needs — not when national security also means job security, health care security, housing security, climate security and so much more.

Our country was woefully unprepared for the coronavirus, as displayed by the stunning lack of resources and loss of life at the height of the pandemic. Just imagine if we prioritized public health, federal welfare, and job assistance the way we do defense…

It’s simple: we should not be spending this much on war and defense. That’s why we need advocates who will hold the administration accountable and fight to better align our spending with our priorities
