There are two ways to make a human body stronger: the healthy way, and the unhealthy way.

We're talking diet and exercise vs. anabolic steroids. Gently leveling up your weight training over time vs. loading up on as many performance enhancing drugs as you can get your hands on so you can lift twice your body weight by the weekend.

The thing is, making our cities financially stronger isn't all that different than muscling up. It's just that for the last few generations, we've been choosing the kind of growth that's more analogous to black market human growth hormones than protein shakes and clean living.
