Texas House Democrats just earned a huge victory in defense of voting rights in Texas.

They didn't earn this victory by having more votes than their counterparts -- the Texas GOP already gerrymandered them out of power. They didn't earn this victory through debate and persuasive arguments -- the fascist GOP can't be reasoned with. And they didn't earn this victory through compromise and bipartisanship -- the GOP has no interest in working across the aisle.

House Democrats in Texas were able to secure this key win by breaking with procedure and precedent, walking off the House floor to break the required 100-member quorum, and killing the extremely restrictive Senate Bill 7.

Moderate Senators like Joe Manchin should pay attention to the Texas House Democratic Caucus' move. Unlike Manchin, Texas Democrats know that the GOP has no interest in bipartisanship or working across the aisle to deliver results for the American people. Their only goal is to undo democracy in any way they can in order to further their far-right agenda.

We hoped Manchin would realize just how extreme his Senate GOP colleagues have become after they filibustered the bipartisan January 6 commission last week, but even that hasn't shaken him.
