John,
Did you know congressional right-wingers are looking to take money away from COVID-19 relief and give it to millionaires and billionaires as unneeded tax cuts? That's outrageous.
Read Deborah's email about how a budget really defines the priorities of a nation, and then chip in $5 or more today to fight against a backwards vision of more tax cuts for the wealthy, and trillions of dollars in budget cuts for essential programs!
President Biden has advanced a forward-thinking budget that re-invests in our country and finally demands the wealthy pay their fair share.
Together, we are going to fight for a budget that is inline with our priorities.

--DEBORAH'S EMAIL--
John,
Budgets are moral documents. They put down in black and white exactly what our nation prioritizes. Did you see what the Republican Study Committee wants to pass for our federal budget? It's outrageous.
Meanwhile, President Biden has advanced a thoughtful, historic budget that lifts up working people and gives our country an opportunity to address poverty and rebuild the middle class.
Chip in $5 or more today to fight back against a budget introduced by congressional Republicans that includes more tax cuts for the wealthy, and trillions of dollars in budget cuts for essential programs! Donate to CHN to stop the Republican budget.
In President Bident's budget, he details plans to invest in critical services, reduce childhood poverty, provide universal preschool to three- and four- year-olds, and offer two years of free community college. Biden's budget also invests trillions in American infrastructure, our schools, health care, and finally demands that the rich pay their fair share.
Here's how President Biden summed up what a budget really means to a country.
"Where we choose to invest speaks to what we value as a Nation. This year’s Budget, the first of my Presidency, is a statement of values that define our Nation at its best.”1
Meanwhile, the Republican Study Committee in the House of Representatives is actively pushing a plan that cuts $14 trillion in spending over a decade, including cuts to Social Security and Medicare. "It would cut $2.5 trillion from current Medicare projections, $3.3 trillion from other health programs including Medicaid, and lop another $3.5 trillion from other mandatory programs," The Hill reports.2
House Republicans also want to:3
- Pass new tax cuts (another $1.9 trillion in tax cuts), which will mostly benefit the super-rich and corporations
- Create a higher eligibility age for Medicare and retirement age for Social Security (They also are calling for a fast-track, closed door process to cut Social Security and Medicare during economic downturns)
- Slash Medicaid’s and the Child Health Insurance Program’s funding and coverage guarantees
- Drastically cut nutrition aid and other programs targeted to help people with low incomes by hundreds of billions compared to the Biden budget
- Terminate worker and environmental protections, family planning, job training programs, and more
In short, these extreme proposals would move our country in exactly the wrong direction. And we’ve learned―the hard way―that extreme proposals can gain traction if we don’t fight back.
John, together we can not only stop this outrageous budget―we can make the investments that will build our future and leave no one behind! Donate to CHN today to power our efforts to keep phones ringing and letters pouring in to members of Congress to demand a budget that reflects our priorities.
Thank you for all you do to fight for a future that includes all of us, not just the wealthy few.
