Dear John,
Last week house Republicans passed a dangerous package of bills restricting a woman's right to an abortion. My Democratic colleagues and I stood strong against this harmful package of bills, but unfortunately, because Republicans still control the State House and Senate they can nearly pass this legislation.
One of the Bills (HB118) forces women to fill out a form and fine them if they miscarry. This further traumatizes women already experiencing loss. It also requires our doctors and healthcare professionals to submit the form or be fined (the form can be found at the bottom of this email). HB118 categorizes miscarriage as death, regardless of the length of the pregnancy, and therefore, requires the health facility to file a death certificate, obtain a burial permit, and provide ritual burial or cremation all the while charging the woman a fee.
Thankfully Governor Wolf, has vowed to veto these harmful bills. However the GOP's attempt to dismantle a women's right to chose shows their true colors, and is exactly why we need to flip Pennsylvania blue in 2022! This cycle, I know the GOP is targeting my seat and many others across Pennsylvania. In order to make a Democratic majority in Pennsylvania a reality I need your help. With redistricting in 2022, we have the best opportunity to flip the Pennsylvania legislature blue in our lifetime. Finally, Democrats have a fair shot in elections across the state.
