Friend,

Fossil fuel subsidies are directing our tax dollars toward polluting industries -- even while studies show that fossil fuel pollution harms our health as well as our climate.

Researchers have found that inhaling the particulates produced by burning fossil fuels results in 350,000 American deaths every year.[1] Yet, federal subsidies for this industry are keeping us locked into fossil fuels.[2]

We can protect public health and reduce air pollution by putting an end to these unwarranted subsidies. U.S. PIRG is campaigning to make that happen -- but we can't do it without your support.

Will you donate today to help us end fossil fuel subsidies?

In a given year, the federal government gives various tax breaks, incentives and other subsidies to the fossil fuel industry -- totaling more than $20 billion.[3]

These companies are doing no favors to our health or climate -- estimates say fossil fuel infrastructure will add more than 650 billion tons of carbon dioxide to the atmosphere.[4]

What a colossal waste of taxpayer money, especially when we should be doing everything we can to accelerate the transition to renewable energy and move away from the largest sources of carbon pollution.

By ending subsidies that give fossil fuels an unwarranted advantage, we'll free up more money to invest in renewable energy technology, and the market will follow. But we need your help to make that a reality, Friend. Donate today.

With a new legislative session underway, Congress has a chance to make 2021 the year we end fossil fuel subsidies once and for all. So U.S. PIRG and our national network have been sending thousands of messages from supporters like you to federal lawmakers, telling them to stop propping up polluting industries with our tax dollars.

But our work to zero out carbon emissions doesn't stop there. We're also campaigning in states across the country for cleaner modes of transportation, such as electric buses and expanded public transit.

All of our work to ensure cleaner air and a healthier climate for future generations relies on the support of people like you. Donate today.
