WEBINAR | The Smoking Room with Simon Hills
Wednesday 9th June 2021, 6.00-7.00pm
------------------------------------------------------------

[link removed] For our next Smoking Room webinar we are delighted to welcome journalist Simon Hills who until his recent retirement was associate editor of The Times Magazine.

Simon started his career in journalism interviewing pop stars from Madonna and Kylie Minogue to Paul Weller and Gary Numan.

He went on to write news stories "from the rain forest of Brazil to the badlands of Essex" and run a sailing centre in Greece before settling down in south London.

Fifteen years ago Simon wrote a book called Strictly No! How We're Being Overrun by the Nanny State. In it Simon explained how a new all-powerful "meddling class" is taking over the world and lampooned the silliness and self-interest that lies behind their thinking.

Later he wrote a series of articles for Forest's Free Society website.

A smoker, albeit “a very lightweight one a day now, maybe two on a big night”, Simon continues to have strong opinions about the war on tobacco, smoking bans and other nanny state driven policies.

In the wake of today’s widely-reported story ([link removed]) that Oxfordshire County Council wants to ban smoking outside workplaces and hospitality venue to make Oxfordshire ‘smoke free’ by 2025 it should be a lively conversation, register today!
