Newly passed laws in Montana and Idaho could reduce the states’ wolf populations by at least 80 percent. “They're taking us back 100 years to when wolves were driven to near extinction,” says Sierra Club wildlife specialist Bonnie Rice. The Sierra Club has joined the Center For Biological Diversity and the Humane Society in calling for an emergency reinstatement of Endangered Species Act protections for gray wolves in the Northern Rockies.

As environmental and social justice movements grow more powerful, the right-wing effort to criminalize dissent and protest continues to gain momentum. Fifteen states have passed bills criminalizing environmental protests since 2017, and according to the American Civil Liberties Union, nearly 100 anti-protest bills were introduced in 36 states in the past year alone.

Studies show that spending even 20 minutes in a local park helps kids concentrate better in school. But not everyone has easy access to a local park, let alone further-afield destinations like national parks. The Transit to Trails Act (H.R. 2924 and S. 1461) will make it easier for people to reach public lands via public transportation, expanding access to the outdoors for people in nature-deprived communities.
