John -- First, there was gerrymandering, voter suppression, and attacks on the courts. Now there's this:

Politico: "They tried to overturn the 2020 election. Now they want to run the next one. Trump supporters who back his claim that the 2020 vote was rigged are running to become the top election officials in key states."

Extreme Republicans who tout the Big Lie that the 2020 election was stolen are now trying to get themselves elected secretary of state in places like Georgia, Arizona, and Michigan. This is incredibly dangerous, especially on top of GOP efforts to gerrymander and restrict voting. Can you imagine what November 2020 would have looked like without state officials who were committed to fair elections?

Even some Republicans are alarmed about "the possibility that politicians who have taken steps to undermine faith in the American democratic system could soon be the ones running it," according to Politico. The GOP vice chair of the Board of Supervisors in Arizona's Maricopa County told the publication that these candidates are "trying to tear at the foundations of democracy."

But the reality is that this is just one of many actions far-right radicals are taking to ensure that next time Donald Trump or someone like him claims to have won an election, they have all the tools available to back him up.
