------------------------------------------------------------
President Biden announced the withdrawal of U.S. troops from Afghanistan last month, initially indicating the timeline was by Sept. 2021. Gaining attention in the United States, particularly among veterans and people of faith, are concerns about the fate of Afghans allies who assisted the U.S. mission as interpreters, drivers, engineers, and much more. With the withdrawal deadline now looming as early as July, we know we cannot abandon those who put their lives on the line for our mission.
Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service is calling for President Biden to uphold the U.S.'s promise to tens of thousands of Afghan Allies and their families. Join LIRS along with special guest Matt Zeller, Truman Project Fellow and author of “Watches Without Time: An American Soldier in Afghanistan," on Tuesday, June 8th for "Our Call to Care: More Than Allies." Our 30-minute roundtable discussion will allow you to learn more about the historical strategies for evacuating allies, the need to evacuate our Afghan allies as soon as possible, and what YOU can do to ensure a timely evacuation happens.

------------------------------------------------------------
LIRS has joined several veterans’ groups, resettlement partners, and members of Congress to create a call to action for the Biden administration to evacuate Afghan allies at risk of anti-American violence and retaliation. We recently delivered a letter to top White House officials ([link removed]) calling for emergency evacuation, and we will continue to put pressure on President Biden until all of our allies are safe. We are now asking people of conscience to join us.
