National Action Plan Among NAM Recommendations
The pandemic was partly the reason for the delay in release of The Future of Nursing 2020-2030: Charting a Path to Health Equity&mdash;and it was also the catalyst for recommendations devoted to handling such crises. The National Academy of Medicine delved into how nursing can better prepare for widespread emergencies. A national center for disaster nursing is but one proposal.

Campaign&rsquo;s Diversity and Inclusion Advisers on Health Equity
Data, diverse leadership, education: When Nurse.com asked the presidents of the National Association of Hispanic Nurses, the National Black Nurses Association, and the Asian American Pacific Islander Nurses Association how they think nursing can improve health equity, it received a variety of responses. The three help lead the Campaign&rsquo;s Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Steering Committee.

Nurses Address Vaccine Hesitancy in New Podcast Series
Pennsylvania nurses talk about how they build trust among residents who are reluctant to get the COVID-19 vaccine in new episodes of the &ldquo;At the Core of Care&rdquo; podcast. The six-part vaccine confidence series includes nurses from across the country discussing how they made the decision to get vaccinated, and how some have become vaccine ambassadors.

Root Cause Coalition Survey: Consumers Slowly Ease Back
Missed health appointments over the past year and increased volunteerism are two findings from the latest survey from The Root Cause Coalition, which works to end the systemic causes of health inequities. Its surveys seek to identify consumer behaviors concerning the social determinants of health serve; this one underscores, as the Coalition says, &ldquo;challenges faced by so many Americans during COVID-19.&rdquo;

New - Lupus Program To Fund Clinical Trials


The National Lupus Outreach and Clinical Trial Education Program seeks to increase minority participation in lupus-related clinical trials to help to reduce lupus-related health disparities experienced by racial and ethnic minority populations. The Office of Minority Health offers grants for projects of up to two years. Deadline: June 29, 6 p.m. ET.

Family members may be instrumental helping patients with Type 2 diabetes adopt, tailor, and sustain health behaviors that support effective self-management. That&rsquo;s why the Office of Minority Health offers grant funding for Family-Centered Approaches to Improving Type 2 Diabetes Control and Prevention initiative. Deadline: July 13, 6 p.m. ET.

The Office of Minority Health wants communities to use local data to develop tailored solutions that address health disparities. It invites nonprofit organizations, community and faith-based organizations, and foundations to apply for its Accessing Social Determinants of Health Data Through Local Data Intermediaries Initiative. The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation&rsquo;s Systems for Action program seeks proposals to measure the impact of collaborations across the nation&rsquo;s fragmented medical, social, and public health systems&mdash;partnerships that allow organizations to better share in the costs, benefits, and influence that govern these initiatives. Grants are available for research to evaluate solutions. Deadline: June 9.

The American Nurses Association has issued its annual call for nominations for appointed positions, along with a list of the boards and committees with openings. J&J Challenge Grant Focus: Improve Access to Care
Johnson & Johnson invites nurses and students to submit their nurse-led novel concepts, protocols, treatment approaches, and consumer product ideas with the potential to help improve access to care amid the pandemic environment and beyond. Winners receive up to $100,000 and mentoring from J&J. The Nurses Innovate QuickFire Challenge deadline is August 6.
