It’s simply
not true that we need to raise taxes on workers or small businesses to
fund life saving policies like a $15 minimum wage or Medicare for All.

We can fund those policies and more by cracking down on the ones
responsible for roughly 70% of the “tax gap”, or the difference between
taxes paid and taxes owed: the wealthiest 1% of Americans.

Introducing: Ro’s Stop CHEATERs Act, which is as simple as 1-2-3:

 1. Fix the IRS so they can actually enforce the rules.
 2. Stop criminal tax evasion by the ultra-wealthy.
 3. Raise a projected $1.2 trillion over 10 years...without a single tax
increase.

So, how did we get to the point where wealthy individuals and massive
corporations pay little to no taxes and face zero consequences for their
behavior?

The answer: The IRS has been *severely* underfunded over the last two
decades, even though more individuals and businesses are filing taxes than
ever before. Without enough resources to enforce the rules, the IRS is
basically no match for the ultra-rich and their tax-dodging tricks.

Ro’s bill would provide the IRS the funding it needs – with one big
condition: Focus enforcement on the wealthiest corporations and
individuals. By giving the IRS the tools to properly tackle tax evasion,
the Stop CHEATERS Act will finally hold millionaires and billionaires to
the same standard as ordinary, honest people who pay their tax bill every
year.

Unsurprisingly, Ro’s Stop CHEATERs Act has some extremely powerful
opponents who are VERY invested in keeping the tax system rigged in their
favor. It’s going to take an enormous amount of grassroots support and
advocacy to get a bill like the Stop CHEATERs passed. But if anyone can do
it, it’s us.
