Save the Children Action Network is the political voice for kids.

Congress can improve one of our most important programs – send a message!

Urge members of Congress to boost funding for the Summer Food Service Program, so that fewer children are hungry over the summer.

Hi John –

Hot dogs, watermelon and corn on the cob… these foods all say “summer” don’t they?

But for far too many children in the U.S., summer months mean hunger because they rely on free or reduced-price breakfasts, lunches and snacks at school. So when school’s out, they lose access to those nutritious meals and snacks.

The federally-funded Summer Food Service Program helps fill these gaps by providing free meals and snacks during summer months. But the program only reaches about 1 in 7 kids who receive free or reduced-price school lunches during the school year.

This leaves millions of kids with empty bellies during the summer!

Send a message to your members of Congress: child hunger doesn’t get a summer break. Increase funding for the Summer Food Service Program.

With additional funding, more children living in poverty – especially those in hard-to-reach rural areas – can have access to nutritious food all year long.

COVID has affected so many families – losses of jobs, losses of child care, and struggles with distance learning. Why wouldn’t we help them get the food and nutrition they need?

Send a message to your members of Congress to increase funding for the Summer Food Service Program. Because no child should go hungry.

Thank you for being a voice for kids,
