John,
The COVID-19 pandemic showed us how vulnerable our food system is to disruptions — and how reliant we are on big corporations. It’s time to create a more resilient system, both for our own sake and for the planet’s.
Urge the Biden administration to put sustainability first as it creates policies for the future of our food system.
The current system is a race to the bottom. On the local level, farmers, farmworkers and farming communities face economic and safety risks. And globally, meat and dairy production — which are heavily subsidized, here at home, by the U.S. Department of Agriculture — are leading drivers of climate change, biodiversity loss, toxic pollution, wildlife killings and worker exploitation. Meanwhile many of us in the United States, including children, lack access to good, healthy food.
But it doesn’t need to be like this.
Tell the USDA: It’s time to create a more resilient, fairer and healthier food system, aligned with national security and climate goals.
