We have some good news out of Texas, John.
Late last night, Texas Democrats walked out of the state house and effectively stopped Senate Bill 7 -- one of the worst voter suppression bills in the country. This Republican bill would have brought sweeping restrictions on early, drive-through and mail-in voting.
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott already indicated he'll call a special session as early as tomorrow to get the job done, so we need to let Texas Democrats we have their back:
Would you add your name to our thank you card for Texas Democrats? They're going to need a groundswell of support from across the country to shut this down.
Texas is seeing its highest turnout in decades thanks to Democratic voter registration and organizing efforts in cities and diversifying suburbs. It's a strong indicator of where they're headed in the long run.
In response, Republicans turned to a familiar playbook: Make it harder for young people, people of color, and Democrats in urban areas to vote. If they pass this bill, it's going to be an uphill battle headed into the midterms.
Give Texas Democrats your words of encouragement before the tough week ahead >>
Thanks, and happy Memorial Day!
