John,

On this day, and every single day, we must remember the service and legacies of those patriots who have lost their lives in honor of this country.

Traditionally, this day is for members of the military -- those who risk everything to protect the rights and freedoms we value so deeply in this country.

But on Memorial Day in 2021, in which so many of us can finally see one another safely, in-person, and without masks for the first time in over a year, I find myself filled with gratitude.

I'm thinking about the doctors, nurses, and healthcare workers who dedicated everything to protecting us and our loved ones while risking their own lives. Thinking about the grocery store clerks, food delivery folks, cooks who prepared our take-out food, and so many more who kept our country running during unsafe times. Thinking about teachers and childcare providers who changed their entire way of teaching to keep our kids on track.

I feel an overwhelming amount of gratitude today to so many, and I hope you do too, John.

I will never forget that during the hardest year in many of our lives, so many people showed bravery and resiliency in service to our country. That's what our country is all about.

Thank you, stay safe, and have a peaceful Memorial Day.
