Friend,

After a traumatic year in which we endured a pandemic and an insurrection at our nation's Capitol, Memorial Day is an opportunity for reflection and to honor those who gave their lives in defense of our country. They were Democrats and Republicans of all races, religions, colors, and genders united by their love of America. And during this weekend of reflection, parades, and trips with friends and family, we owe it to our fallen heroes to continue keeping each other safe.

Today, I'm honoring my birth father, Capt. Artie Pfefer, who died serving in the Vietnam War when I was just six months old. Though fate kept me from knowing him, I'm proud to carry on his legacy of service, and grateful for the opportunity to be a public servant to the country to which he gave his life.

Join me in honoring all our military families and keeping the memory of those who died in battle close to heart. Let's honor their courage by taking care of our communities this Memorial Day, through the end of the pandemic and beyond.

Wishing you a safe and meaningful Memorial Day,

Dean
