Did you know that the most horrific hate crime in United States history has YET to have its day in court? Over 300 Black Americans were killed in the Tulsa massacre that occurred 100 years ago today, thousands more were injured and displaced, and a thriving Black Wall Street was eviscerated and lost.

Millions of dollars in damage was done to Black Wall Street, and the effects of that stolen wealth are still felt in ripples across the Black community today.

While many who experienced the horrors of that night are gone, three survivors and the descendants of the Greenwood community are on a mission for overdue justice.

Viola Fletcher, her brother Hughes Van Ellis, and Lessie Benningfield Randle testified before the House Judiciary Committee to the horrors they experienced that night. Although justice may be delayed, their testimony before Congress proves that justice does not have to be forever denied.

So while I continue working through the Ways and Means committee to promote wealth equity, correcting this injustice would be a bold first step towards progress.

Hundreds of lives were snuffed out in the hours between May 31st and June 1st, 1921, and thousands more were forever changed. These families deserve justice, it's well past overdue.
