News from Representative Allred

May 31, 2021

Dear Friend,

Today we honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country. We enjoy the freedoms of our great nation every day because of the enormous  sacrifice of our fallen servicemembers, our veterans, and their families. This Memorial Day, along with my family, I’ll be thinking of the many North Texans who fought bravely for our country, and honoring their sacrifice.

In Congress, I am honoring that commitment by working on legislation that expands opportunities and care for our military, veterans and their families. As a Member of the Veterans Affairs Committee, one of my top priorities is making sure veterans get the care and benefits they are owed. I helped secure the Garland VA Medical Center last year, introduced legislation to improve transparency at the VA, and helped to pass bipartisan legislation that expands opportunities for servicemembers transitioning back to civilian life.

In response to the pandemic, we passed the American Rescue Plan, which includes $14.5 billion for the VA to provide health care services including suicide prevention, women’s health services, and telehealth expansion. It also provides nearly $400 million for up to 12 months of retraining assistance for veterans who are unemployed as a result of the pandemic and do not have access to other veteran education benefits. Especially during a pandemic, it is important that veterans have easy access to the quality care and benefits that they’ve earned through their service.

Today and every day, I will continue to honor the memory of those who fought for our freedoms by passing legislation that serves our military, veterans and the communities that support them. My office also offers services for veterans, including assisting with VA issues. Please give us a call in Richardson at (972) 972-7949 if you or a veteran you know need assistance.

From my family to yours, we hope you have a peaceful Memorial Day.

Sincerely,
