John,

I wanted to ask for a moment of your time to pause with me and remember what this day is about.

Today, please join me in remembering and honoring those brave Americans who gave their lives in service to our country – fighting for independence, fighting to defeat slavery and fascism, fighting to defend our freedoms and fighting for our democracy.

Many of these fallen service members left behind loved ones here in Connecticut’s Fifth District. Today, it is these families and friends that are in my thoughts. I hope you will join me in praying for our Gold Star families and for all the friends and loved ones they left behind.

Thank you for taking a moment to read this and to remember what Memorial Day is about. Let us recommit to keeping America’s promises to our Gold Star families and veterans – it is one of the best ways we have to honor the fallen.

– Jahana
